One of the things people say about Woodlakes is that it works for everyone in the group — even the ones who had to be persuaded. The anglers get the lakes. The hot-tub people get the hot tubs. And everyone finds their rhythm within about half a day of arriving.
The on-site fishing lakes are well-stocked and properly managed. Carp fishing is the headline act — the lakes hold some sizeable fish — but there's enough variety to keep a mixed group happy. Fishing permits are available through the park. Bring your own gear or hire locally.
The hot tub lodges are genuinely private — none of that semi-public decking where you can see the neighbouring lodge doing the same thing. A proper soak with a Norfolk sky overhead, day or night, is one of those simple pleasures that's hard to improve on.
When you do venture beyond the park, the options are good. The market town of Fakenham is 15 minutes away for supplies. The North Norfolk coast — Holkham, Wells, Burnham — is within easy reach for a proper beach day. And the Broads are accessible for boat trips if you fancy something different.
The lodges all have fully equipped kitchens, and self-catering here is a pleasure rather than a chore. The local farm shops and delis stock excellent Norfolk produce — pick up a dressed crab from the coast if you're heading that way.
