Planning the Perfect Romantic Lodge Break

Romantic holidays don't have to mean expensive hotels and fixed dinner reservations. In fact, the most memorable couples' breaks tend to involve doing very little in a very beautiful place. A lodge is the ideal setting for exactly that.

Choose the right lodge

For a romantic trip, you want a lodge with genuine privacy. That means its own enclosed hot tub (not a shared spa), a good-sized outdoor space, and enough distance from neighbouring lodges to feel like you've got the place to yourselves. Our lodges at Lakeside Secret Gardens in Bridlington are designed specifically with this in mind — the Secret Garden outdoor space is fully enclosed and completely private.

Arrive in the early afternoon

Check-in usually starts at 4pm, but if you can arrive early, try to. A lazy afternoon getting settled, opening a bottle of wine and getting into the hot tub before dinner is the perfect way to properly transition out of everyday life.

Plan one proper outing

The temptation on a lodge break is to never leave, and that's completely valid. But one well-chosen day out — a coastal walk, a market, a good lunch somewhere — gives the holiday a sense of rhythm and gives you something to come back from. The evenings feel even better when you've earned them.

The small details matter

Bring the good wine. Get the nice coffee. Put your phone face-down. The lodge provides the space; you just have to decide to actually use it.
