Sherwood Forest has captured imaginations for centuries. The ancient oaks, the folklore, the sheer scale of the woodland — there's nowhere quite like it in England. And when your lodge sits within that landscape, the holiday feels different from the moment you arrive.
Our lodges at Sherwood Forest Park are set within the Nottinghamshire countryside, with the ancient forest on your doorstep. The park itself is peaceful and well-kept, with a mix of lodge styles to suit couples, families and groups. Many are pet-friendly, so the dog comes too.
The famous Major Oak — reputedly Robin Hood's hiding place and one of England's oldest living trees — is a short drive away in the heart of the RSPB Sherwood Forest nature reserve. The walk through the ancient oaks to reach it is every bit as atmospheric as you'd hope.
The market town of Newark-on-Trent is well worth an afternoon. The castle ruins overlooking the river are impressive, the market square is genuinely lively, and there are some good independent restaurants and pubs. Southwell Minster — one of England's lesser-known cathedrals — is a short drive further and quietly stunning.
After a day out in the forest, the lodge does exactly what a good lodge should: it slows you down. Settle onto the decking, get the hot tub running, and let the evening take care of itself.
